a person wearing a gold and silver shoe

You may remember me, I’m Marie, and once upon a time I was on my way toward being a Mother of the Bride myself, just over a year ago in fact. At that point in time, I was most worried about my hair, having written a piece on flattering and chic hairstyles for us ladies.

Well, I’m not the only one of my friends whose baby has grown up, and I find myself to be just as invested in their mother of the bride or groom wedding preparations as I once was in my own. Probably the most popular topic of advice requested from myself is on shoe-outfit coordination.

Here, I will profess my undying obsession with the nude pump. Your ultimate fashion tool, this shoe type and color works well with almost every dress color under the sun. You may wish to sport a bright color or to tone it down a couple of notches with dark shades, but you can do absolutely no wrong with the perfect pair of nude heels.

1. Daytime Casual

The Look

Nude can work with light colors as well. This dress looks great and polished with the model’s nude pointed toe pumps. The outfit works well for a more casual daytime affair.

For an occasion that calls for more casual attire, choose a matte leather pump. Pointed toe pumps look specially smart with shorter dresses. Go with a shoe like these Marc Fisher LTD “Zala” pumps in Lite Latte Leather.

In the words of Teri Jon’s team of fashion experts, who helped me pick out my own perfect pair of nude pumps that still make an appearance any occasion I find that I can bring them out, “nude pumps will elongate your leg and give you a sleek look”. Move away from harsh, dark colors that can cut you off and make you appear shorter, especially in styles that include an ankle strap or other material aside from at the toe.

2. Dressier or Nighttime Look

The Look

Nude pumps provide the perfect pairing for a black dress as well. While black is very contrasting to your skin, nude acts like a continuation of your legs, enhancing the appearance of length.

For a slightly dressier look, an embellished or otherwise decorated pump is always a safe bet. These Adriana Papell ‘Zandra’ Embellished Peep Toe Pumps in Nude Faille could go perfectly with shorter dress in a variety of colors. Just make sure not to wear toe-covering panty-hose with open-toe shoes.

Not only does this heel elongate your legs, but the color is so subtle that it works as almost a “backdrop” for the rest of your outfit, which I’m sure you want to show off. While bolder shoes can distract from a beautifully detailed dress, these shoes give your outfit the stage – accessories and all.

3. Black Tie

The Look

Nothing says sophistication like a gown paired with nude heels. Especially with a long skirt, one would want to keep it very simple at the bottom.

For a black tie look, a metallic nude will achieve the right level of dressiness. These ‘Crystah’ Embellished Satin Pumps in Champagne by Nina  are perfect for a formal occasion and long gown.

4. With a Pattern

The Look

Many of my friends are concerned about heel height when preparing for the wedding. Nude pumps are still an amazing choice in this case because they still work to elongate your leg despite having a shorter heel.

Who wouldn’t want to be super comfortable and ALSO look their best?! You have plenty of flexibility with this color to play with heel height, specific style, and even toe shape – these Stuart Weitzman Moody Round-Toe Heels are a great example.

Most recently, my friend was looking for the perfect pair of shoes to match this dress that she is planning to wear to her daughter’s black tie wedding this November. She just got the perfect black clutch to match the dress.

While the initial concern was that to wear nude shoes with this dress would be introducing too many colors into the equation, however when my friend actually tried the entire outfit on, the neutral tone looked absolutely stunning against the green of the dress and complemented the black clutch. The second thoughts about this color combination immediately faded away once the outfit came together. My friend looked absolutely stunning and so put-together that I would recommend this outfit to anyone.
